Review: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D

With the release of Ocarina of Time on the 3DS its a great time for a trip down memory lane.  The gameplay is solid just like it was originally on the N64.  Just wanting to point out, there is a reason that Ocarina of Time, though ranked as the best N64 game, has just now seen a re-release.  Not much has changed, a few new textures, but its a real testament to how poorly 64-bit cartridge graphics have aged.  For a handheld it looks good, but obviously could have been better given other titles such as Super Street Fighter 4 3D edition look as though they should be on a console.  N64 graphics were good back on the DS and N64, but on the 3DS, they show all the old spots and weak points, I can't even count how many times it's frustrated me because my boomerang went through a wall during a fight.  But to point out remaining glitches for a classical feel, that stupid fairy Navi always cries out for attention at the worst moments, when I forgot how to start the mission of going inside Jabu Jabu's belly, I waited around for 5 minutes and the fairy said nothing until I figured it out, then brought up about how I should get moving instead of helping me.  There really is a need for an options to cut off the stupid pest and play the game without its "help".

As far as the 3D is concerned, it works fine.  Lots of other reviews have talked poorly of the 3D, saying it needs to be turned off, but if it is turned off, it literally looks like an entirely different game, like the N64 version but a touch foggy.  With the 3D it is a crystal image you'd swear was high definition worthy of a console, textures are cleaner and crisper then the original, but could have taken a few of the knife-sharp angles to hands, feet, hair, clothes and areas themselves.  3D becomes an issue when out in Hyrule Field, with the sun glare on screen literally feeling like its in your eyes and the fairy looks at times like an annoying piece of dust leaving a trail right in front of your nose.
