E3 2011

This year's E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) could be summed up in one word, boring.  At least Sony and Microsoft's were.  Sony pushed the PS Vita, the new PSP with two....yes, for some reason two touch screens.  I guess they thought Nintendo's DS wasn't complex enough with just one so for the next gen in handheld gaming its two touch screens.  Did I mention one is on the back, I just want to say, I have PSP and play it, but what I have always quarreled over was how to hold it.  Its a glossy plastic casing, looks pretty, but leaves no solid gripping how even the Gameboy felt solid in your hands, PSPs feel thin and long, with no comfort, but the Vita will do away with this, with little hand locations, but the only issue I can come up with looking at the design pictures is if your fingers touch the touch screen on the back, or let go with one hand to dry, with a small grip if you'll drop it.  The software line up looks to be a bit predictable with Little Big Planet, Uncharted and Mod Nation Racers.

Microsoft's 360 conference was wasted time, on yet another Fable, Gears of War and Halo....yes....Halo, again, as if it still has any story, another sequel and an update of the original.
Sad to say, that's all I can come up with for Xbox, besides some more Kinect software, took a while, but finally some more games for it, one based in Rome looks particularly good.

For the first year, Nintendo has had the best conference in my opinion since I started watching E3 in 2008, announcing the Wii U, and a lot of new software for the 3DS.  3DS is another one that is just coming through on the promises of the year prior with games like, Resident Evil: Revelations, a new Mario, a new Super Smash Brothers, brand new information on Metal gear Solid 3, and Kid Icarus, Luigi's Mansion 2, and Star Fox 64 3D.  With the Wii U, we saw prototype software of what kinds of capabilities it will have with a 6.2 inch touch screen controller and the announcement of games such as Batman: Arkham City, Darksiders 2, and other third-party games, which may not seem like much being on other consoles also, but it shows the Wii U will be on par with the current generation game consoles they say, and only time will tell.

Thanks for reading
